## The short answer

**This site sets no cookies.** Not analytics cookies, not functional ones, not any.
There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Four things are remembered in your browser's local storage, and none of them leaves
your device.

## What is stored

| Key | What it holds | When it is written | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| `gr-theme` | `light` or `dark` | When you use the theme switch | Until you clear site data |
| `gr-pm` | `npm`, `pnpm`, `yarn` or `bun` | When you pick a tab in an install snippet | Until you clear site data |
| `gr-search-recent` | Up to five of your latest search queries | When you open a search result | Until you clear site data |
| `gr-catalogue-view` | `grid` or `list` | When you switch the component catalogue between grid and list | Until you clear site data |
| `gr-stage-bg` | `grid`, `plain` or `card` | When you pick the stage background on a component page | Until you clear site data |

Local storage is not a cookie. It is never sent to a server — not with page requests,
not with anything else. We cannot read it; only the page running in your browser can,
and it uses it for exactly the three purposes above.

Recent queries stay with you: the hint shown on an empty search field is built from that
list, and clearing site data removes it entirely.

## Why the theme is not a cookie

The site is static: pages are built ahead of time and there is no server that could read
a cookie before rendering. The theme is applied by a small script before the first paint,
and that script reads local storage. A cookie here would be a third storage with no
consumer.

## Why the language is not stored either

The language is part of the address: `/docs/installation` is English,
`/ru/docs/installation` is Russian. Nothing needs to be remembered — the link already
says which one you want.

## Removing it

Clearing site data for `granularity.tech` in your browser removes both keys. The site
keeps working; it simply forgets your theme and falls back to your system setting.

## Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Both are respected. Since nothing is tracked, there is nothing for them to switch off —
but if analytics is ever added, these signals will be honoured before anything is
recorded. See [Privacy](/legal/privacy).
